The "free for personal use" edition offer private users the possibility to use UCS/UGS free of charge and non-binding in their environment. There are no functional or chronological limitations.

The use of the free Personal Edition is tied to private, non-commercial environments and subject to limited product liability, which is accepted with the download and/or the installation. Details can be found on the Licensing conditions page.

A valid licence is created automatically with the installation and so designates the version clearly as free for personal use. It limits the number of objects which can be administrated with Univention Directory Manager to five of each type (e.g., after installation a maximum of five additional user accounts can be saved and administrated).

The licence does not need to be registered or activated at any time.

The Personal edition contains the same scope of packages and functions as commercial purchased versions of UCS/UGS. Examples for use in the private area are:

• as easy to set up Linux home servers for file/print services, DNS, DHCP, Proxy
• as a log-in server for Windows systems with simple, comprehensive permission configuration
• as a mail or groupware server, based on UGS (Kolab 2) or the integrated Scalix community edition
• as a Linux desktop system or thin client with simple administration
• ...

If necessary, an existing installation of the Personal edition can be relicensed to a Standard edition without new installation.
