Univention Corporate Desktop (UCD) is based on the enterprise Linux distribution Univention Corporate Server (UCS) and includes numerous optimisations for the operation of Linux on desktops and notebooks. This Linux desktop is specially adapted to the requirements of companies and institutions: it is easy to operate and, together with UCS, offers central desktop management.
Additionally, Univention guarantees users regular update and release cycles.

UCD uses the graphic user interface KDE 4 from the KDE Software Compilation (KDE SC). This imparts all the functions of a modern, self-explanatory desktop interface. Alongside an attractive appearance with 3D effects, animated icons and transparent window contents, it also includes numerous possibilities for users and administrators to personalise the user interface to suit their organisation-specific or individual requirements. Additionally, KDE offers a wide range of useful programs (e.g., the file manager Dolphin or the calculator kcalc) and desktop widgets, so-called plasmoids, for diverse user interactions up to specific applications (e.g., the document viewer Okular and image viewer Kuickshow).
All KDE packages for the professional area and further important applications for daily work in the office have been selected and tested for business requirements. An overview of the supplied applications can be found on this page.
