Univention Corporate Desktop

Included applications

With Univention Corporate Desktop (UCD) users receive a complete, ready-to-use desktop system with all the usual applications - from the Office suite right up to the flash player. Alongside programs for communication and the editing of image, music and video files, UCD includes Acrobat Reader, archiving and zip programs as standard.

Moreover, UCD is the ideal client to access terminal servers so that users can also use applications for Microsoft Windows without any complications. The integration of Microsoft Windows applications using virtualisation technologies is also possible.

User interface KDE 4

The self-explanatory user interface (KDE 4) of UCD allows even users who have previously only worked with other systems to find their way around and work with UCD. In addition to an attractive, modern look, KDE 4 also offers applications for user interactions. The so-called plasmoids are "miniprograms" (widgets) which can be selected in the top right-hand corner of the desktop toolbox and saved on the desktop. The plasmoids, which can be scaled and rotated as desired, offer a wide range of functions including a digital and analogue clock, battery charge indicator, system monitoring, calendar, picture frames or a notepad which "affixes" short memo notes on the desktop.

In addition, KDE provides a wealth of useful programs including the chat program Konversation, the easy-to-operate file manager Dolphin, the document viewer Okular for PDF files and fax documents and the image viewer Kuickshow.
