Univention Corporate Desktop (UCD) includes a self-explanatory interface based on the KDE user interface. Version 4, which is supplied as of UCD 3.0, offers an ergonomic user interface and a wide range of useful programs from the comprehensive file manager (Dolphin) through miniprograms such as the clock, calendar, calculator (kcalc) up to more extensive applications (e.g., image viewers such as kview).
In addition, KDE 4 included useful applications for diverse user interactions which are integrated directly in the desktop. The so-called plasmoids are "miniprograms" (widgets) which can be selected in the top right-hand corner of the desktop toolbox and saved on the desktop. The plasmoids, which can be scaled and rotated as desired, offer a wide range of functions including battery charge indicator and system monitoring.
Univention Corporate Server can be used to administrate centrally which software is installed on which client. The numerous settings allow adaptation of the software to suit the organisation-specific requirements. For example, you can define whether a client is updated when started, shut down or at a specified time.
User's desktop settings can be specified using Univention Directory Manager. Alongside the standard profile and language settings, it is also possible to assign the log-on scripts to be run. The settings are policy-based and thus can be assigned once for any number of users.
