Univention Corporate Desktop is suitable for a variety of different working environments. Three differing standard configurations can be complemented with flexible solutions to satisfy the requirements in each individual case.

Stationary desktop system: managed client

Stationary desktop PCs can be used as managed clients with a constant connection to the central user administration and server resources. The workstation environment connects automatically to assigned file services and is available to all authorised users.

Flexible workstation systems to satisfy higher demands on local resources and hardware properties can be built up around managed clients.

Mobile desktop system: mobile client

Mobile workstations require independence from the central network. With local data storage and intermediate storage of domain accounts, mobile clients allow every authorised employee to use the desktop system without a connection to the company network. Access via secure connections is also possible, as is the use of mobile data services.

Server-based computing: terminal services and thin clients

The thin client infrastructure integrated in UCS allows the construction of low-maintenance, low-cost workstations. The thin clients require no local data storage and no personal operating system, instead receiving the runtime environment, configuration and updates via the server systems.

Via installation on UCS servers, Univention Corporate Desktop offers a desktop environment for network access, for example, by thin clients. The terminal services can be mounted on other services flexibly while retaining the advantages of the central desktop administration.
