This page provides you with information on the most important changes and innovations in Univention Corporate Server (UCS). Customers who have purchased UCS in the past twelve months and customers with an ongoing maintenance agreement can update to the latest UCS release at no additional charge.

- UCS 3.0 is a comprehensive reworking of UCS with numerous improvements in the areas of operation, function and performance.
- Completely redeveloped Univention Management Console with innumerable usability improvements and basic reworking of design. Univention Management Console forms the central site for all UCS management functions, including user, domain and virtualization management.
- UCS can adopt the functions of Active Directory domain controllers, meaning that with UCS 3.0 it is even possible to provide the services required for the operation of newer Microsoft Windows operating systems such as Kerberos authentication and the assignment of group policies.
- UCS 3.0 contains the complete Debian repository from Debian 6.0 “Squeeze”, with the exception of the “games” software packages.
- The virtualization technology Xen has been updated to version 4.1. KVM is also completely supported and offers Snapshot and Suspend functions
- The monitoring software Nagios has been updated to version 3.
- UCS 3.0 is suitable for cloud computing: To this end, the UCS Installer has now been designed in such a way that all the important system parameters can be configured web-based or automatically independently of the installation.

Improvements and expansions in UCS 2.4:
- Improved hardware detection during installation.
- Update to the current Linux kernel in version 2.6.32 with long-term maintenance; in addition, the kernel version 2.6.18 is also still available.
- Update of virtualization technology Xen to version 3.4.3
- Support of virtualization technology KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine).
- Expansion of management module “Online-Updates”: the module now offers, among other things, an overview of the available releases and allows you to select which version you would like to update to.
- New Nagios plug-ins for monitoring services and UCS expansions.
- New password quality check in UCS management system: individual criteria for quality assessment can be configured.
- For software manufacturers wishing to use UCS as a platform for their own software products, UCS is now available in an OEM Edition.
Updating and further development of tried-and-tested Open Source applications and components:
- Samba update to version 3.5.4; UCS 2.4 also still includes Samba version 3.3. - Both versions are supported.
- Update of desktop programs Mozilla Firefox to version 3.6.2 and OpenOffice.org to version 3.2
- Update to version 1.2.5 of the webmail client Horde of the groupware solution Kolab.
As of UCS 2.4, the source code of all Univention proprietary developments is included in the GNU AGPLv3.
