“Univention Directory Manager” (UDM) is a flexible and powerful application for directory service-based domain administration, which is integrated in Univention Management Console as a module with convenient, self-explanatory operation. UDM allows web-based domain administration1.
Domain administration with UDM encompasses the administration of users, groups, servers and desktop systems, networks or mail accounts and many other aspects of IT infrastructures. In addition to the web frontend based on the Univention Management Console, scripting interfaces are also available for the automation of recurring tasks and APIs for expansions.
In addition to a comprehensive number of functions for the simple administration of users, groups, computers, networks or other domain objects, the "Navigation" function allows the administration and modelling of the entire domain structure including containers and organisational units. Furthermore, policies can be assigned and objects migrated between containers or organisational units.
As an alternative to the web-based user interface there is also a scripting interface. This command line interface can be used to perform actions with Univention Directory Manager using external scripts or programs. In this way, you have a powerful tool available to you with which processes can be automated and the management system integrated in existing program flows.
The directory service OpenLDAP, on which Windows-based clients are connected via the Active Directory-compatible services of UCS, forms a stable basis for UDM. Alternatively, integration with existing Active Directory domains via UCS Active Directory Connector is also possible.
You can get a better impression of this UMC module in the "screenshots" section.
